asalaam .
brother younas i may try to correct your 1 point in your talk.
if we face a problem, we will look its answer in quran, if we dont find in there, we will look into sunna of prophet, if we also dont find in sunna,THEN WE HAVE TO SEE THE SAHABA'S LIFE to see what they did if they face such problem,if even we cant find in sahaba's life then we will have to look to great scholars what they said about our particular problem..
this is way to solve a problem.. with respect ,i want to remind you that you limit it only upto sunna of prophet.

Walakumassalam:

Yes from an usooli perspective, the sahaba are who we strive to follow and come after Quran and Sunnah as an order of operations but even they based their opinions on ijtihad from the 2 sources and differed in many issues.

Hujjah in the deen of Islam is "Allah says..." and "His Prophet says..." although the evidence that the best understanding in all issues was held by the sahaba is abundant.

I cannot remember the talk but I think I was referring to to a hadith of Muadh ibn Jabbal, narrated in Abu Daood, when the Prophet (saws) asked him before going to Yemen,

“How will you judge if a case is brought to you?” Mu’adh replied “I would judge by the Book of Allah” to which the Prophet asked “And if you do not find an answer in the book of Allah?”
and Mu’adh said “Then by the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah”. So, the Prophet then asked “and if you do not find it in the
Sunnah or the Book of Allah” to which Mu’ath replied he would
exert his own opinion (ijtihad) based upon the Qur’an and Sunnah...

I do not disagree with what you said, but we must make it clear that the reason we refer to the sahaba is because the Prophet (saws) told us they were the best of us and because they referred to Quran and Sunnah and had a first hand account of it.

Thanks for your contribution. May Allah forgive me wherever I err and allow my mistakes to be corrected and may He reward you with jennah firdaus, amin!
